Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy:

  • Treatment for muscle and joint pain

  • An effective treatment for chronic pain

  • Prolotherapy is the injection of a solution to stimulate the growth of new cells to heal painful areas.

  • Ligaments are the most common sites for injections, although muscles, tendons and spinal facet joints can also be treated.

The injections consist of a mixture of a local anesthetic and Dextrose. The Dextrose solution is a strong enough concentration to irritate the area of concern. This stimulates mild inflammation in the area, which is the first part of the healing process.

How does Prolo work?

  • The treatment involves a hyperosmotic solution which essentially stimulates local immune cells in the area to respond as if there is an inflammatory reaction. It causes the immune cells to come in and eat up old scar tissue or old fibrotic tissue that's causing your pain and dysfunction and stimulate new healthy tissue to form.

  • it's a stimulus to boost or bump up the regenerative processes in the body and to slow down or dampen the degenerative processes in the body.

  • It basically pushes your body into laying down new, healthy regenerative tissue and then trying to limit some of that degenerative process that's naturally occurring as we age.
