Intramuscular (IM) Injections

Intramuscular (IM) Injections

At any given time there are hundreds of biochemical reactions that are occurring in our bodies. Each one of these requires different vitamins, minerals or amino acids. Our diet is the most common source for these factors and other times we can obtain them from oral supplements. However, due to chronic stress, poor diets, environmental pollutants, genetic modifications and nutrient depleted soils, obtaining our vitamins and minerals has become more challenging than 50 years ago. Our bodies use some vitamins and minerals more during times of stress, digestion, exercise or illness.

Some vitamins and botanicals can be administered as an Intramuscular (IM) vitamin injection that safely deliver these nutrients into muscles allowing therapeutic dosages to be used to optimize your health and wellbeing. The types of vitamins and botanicals that can be injected into muscles are limited. Book an appointment to discuss what the best options for you might be.

What to Expect

IM injections can be a part of your treatment plan. New patients must book in for a full consult with one of our Naturopathic Doctors prior to determine if they are a good option for you and also to run any appropriate blood work. Our Doctors will test prior to administering injections as it allows monitor of your values with treatment. Each injection will be a custom formulation for you. IM injections are quick and easy and are normally administered to the back of the arm and the appointment takes 5-10 minutes.

Frequently asked questions about IM injections

How often do I need injections?
This varies drastically based upon your health and what your goals are. You may start by needing weekly treatments for a few weeks and then monthly or as needed. Other injections are only as needed or monthly. Your health history and or test results are used to determine your personalized treatment plan.

Are IM injections covered by extended health insurance?
They are considered a treatment as they are administered in office and covered by most plans. However, if your plan only covers consults they may not be. It is best to check with your insurance provider in terms of what you are covered for.

Does it hurt?
You may feel a small poke when the needle is inserted into the back of your arm. Depending on what is in your injection, you may not feel anything from pressure to ache while it is being administered.

What do I need to do to prepare for a treatment?
IM injections are being administered into the muscle so you just need to wear something that provides access to the back of your arm.
